There can be fewer more obvious high value assets requiring fire protection than petroleum and chemical plant storage tank farms. The result of inadequate protection can often be catastrophic and result not only in lost stored products but also in consequential costs in production.

Fixed roof systems will incorporate either sub surface (base injection) application of foam or top pouring devices. Floating roof tanks will have peripheral foam pourers protecting the rim seal area and may also include the latest generation of gaseous extinguishing systems. In all cases the provision of cooling water either by fixed spray rings or by large capacity monitors may also be considered.
