Fixed Roof

Fixed foam solutions include:

Top pouring systems - NFPA Type

Highly versatile, top mounted fixed foam generators are suited to all fuels. They are of a highly cost-effective design forming a vapour seal with low system operating pressures. Foam tanks usually situated outside the bund wall deliver foam concentrate to a foam maker upstream of a foam chamber. Each tank is fitted with the required number of chambers, installed on the shell of the tank below the roof joint. A deflector is fitted inside the tank to direct the foam against the inner tank shell. Unlike base injection systems top pourers may be used with water-soluble fuels.

Base Injection Systems

Also known as sub-surface injection, this design is based on the use of a high back pressure foam maker forcing foam into the tank against the fuel head. Equipment is fitted at the tank base, above the water phase and injects foam into the tank, which rises through the hydrocarbon to form a vapour-tight surface blanket. Highly effective, this system ensures all the foam delivered reaches the fire area. Furthermore maintenance, testing and system vunerability are significantly improved over top mount systems and less pipework means lower cost.
